Second Annual GeorgiaCarry.org Convention

I just received this via email.  For those that have not registered, ya gotta get on the stick! The deadline for registering for the Second Annual Convention is fast approaching.  The deadline is midnight, Tuesday, August 17, 2010.  This is your opportunity to take meet and visit with many of GCO's Members from throughout the state.  This coming weekend promises to be a weekend that will long be remembered.

Kennesaw Room open at 6:30 PM for hospitality and dinner

7:00 PM -     Doors open for Gala Dinner - "Moby in the Morning" will be our master of ceremonies - Jeremy Doan will be our auctioneer - Speaker will be Lt. Governor Casey Cagle and we will present GCO Legislator of the year award.

And, there are a couple more items that may be added to the Saturday agenda. 

We have a terrific line up of items for the auction.  Currently we have a Glock 19 from Ed's Public Safety, Springfield XD45 from Shooters of America (New Gold Sponsor), Springfield XD40, Sig P238 HD Stainless Steel .380 and Bernelli Nova 20GA youth shotgun from Autrey's Armory, several holsters and more to come.  We are also expecting another long rifle as well. This will be an excellent time to come and bid on these terrific items donated by our generous Corporate Sponsors.

Plan on coming out and meeting new friends and visiting with old friends.

On September 18 of this year, I and many of my friends, family and colleagues will be walking for NAMI Georgia.  It is a fantastic event dedicated to raising awareness as well as money for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).  Those that cannot walk with us can donate using the following link: http://www.nami.org/namiwalks10/GEO/dhagaman.
This year's venue is at one of the best parks in Gwinnett: Tribble Mill.  And, being in September, we are nearly guaranteed to have beautiful Georgia weather.  Those with kids will have a blast playing on the playground, there's plenty of grass to throw frisbees, footballs and if the wind is right, there's plenty of space to fly a kite!
So, why not make plans now to come and join us!  The date is Saturday, September 18, 2010.  I can't wait to meet some new friends and reconnect with old ones!

Brunch anyone ?

My new loading bench...

Well, it's far from new.  Just cleaned up and fortified with extra screws.  At least I got everything off the dining room table....

My first .45 ACP reload...

So...I've been taking my time, reading, learning, checking and rechecking to be sure I know what's up with this reloading stuff.  I think I have it now. 
I started out by cleaning (duh!) the cases...and cleaned many pounds just to see what kind of results I'd get.
Next, I figured out how to deprime the cases.  It was only after doing a hundred that I figured out how to put together the Lee Primer Feed so I could deprime, and prime in the same case.  I almost always learn by making mistakes....
The powder charging took me some time to feel confident.  I tried to use the Lee Perfect Powder measure and the Lee scale, but found that  a $40 digital scale got me confidence faster.  And, just for the record, the Lee scale  I have is a piece of junk.  I don't know what the magnet dampeners are for because, literally, there is absolutely nothing magnetic in the whole scale.  I could not get the scale to zero to save my life.  And, even the slightest motion would make it bob up and down.  Fuggetaboutit! I got a digital scale.  Problem solved.
Bear in mind, I spent a lot of time with my books, some empty cartridges and dies in the press to figure out what the heck was going on.  Trust me, it is not rocket surgery.  However, it is imperative to be exact! Even anal about it.
So far, I have only done 10 rounds.  My very first round (seen in the video) will be kept for historical purposes.  Plus, the bullet is seated too far...IMHO.
At any rate, I think I've got it down.  I've even got a table I'm gonna use just for reloading.  I'll be setting up a permanent area so I can get my stuff off the dining room table.  Ciao for now...
