Boycotting Mexican...

I just read an article by Bob Griggs about boycotting Mexican restaurants, and products in general on Cinco de Mayo.  Mexican food and Mexican beer are among my favorites.  Tacos. Enchiladas. Empanadas. Corona.  Tecate.  Tequila.  Mexican is one of my first choices.

With all the controversy over illegal aliens, the new AZ law, border violence and San Fransissy's asenine boycott of Arizona, I can understand Bob's argument.  But then I read one of the comments from a reader directed towards Mr. Grigg's article:

I can certainly understand your frustration with illegal immigration from the standpoint that those who come here illegally are breaking Federal immigration law. But, what I don’t understand is how you think boycotting Mexican restaurants or Hispanic-owned or Hispanic-themed businesses on 5 de Mayo doesn’t equate to outright racism and discrimination, even if just for one day?
Racism? Really?  Let's scratch up the definition of "racism".....

rac·ism [rey-siz-uhm]

–noun
1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

OK.  How is boycotting Mexican products on May 5 racist?  How is enforcing the law racist?  It's a freaking law: if you sneak into the US without going through the proper steps to be here you have broken the law and are a criminal. Period.

I heard it explained this way:  Suppose you climb a fence to get into a major league baseball game.  Did you obtain a ticket to get in? No.  Now suppose nobody knows you have no ticket and you purchase a hot dog, nachos and a beer.  Did you contribute to the economics of the ball park? Yes.  Does your purchase grant you a seat? No.  You're still in the ball park without paying admission.  When you sit in a seat and an usher asks you for your ticket (which you don't have), should you be allowed to stay? No.  Is the usher a racist? No. Should the rules be relaxed for you? No.

It really irks me the way people abuse the word 'racist'.  Ignorance is epidemic.  And, I really don't see many people doing what it takes to educate themselves.  Disturbing.

Quit it with the racist nonsense, people.  Ignorance can be cured with education.  There is no cure for stupid.
