Napoleon Hill Thought for the Day...

Thought for the Day
December 6, 2010

FAILURE IS A BLESSING WHEN IT PUSHES US OUT OF A CUSHIONED SEAT OF SELF-SATISFACTION AND FORCES US TO DO SOMETHING USEFUL.

If you carefully study your own life and those of achievers whom you admire, it is an absolute certainty you will discover that your greatest opportunities often occurred during times of adversity. It is only when faced with the possibility of failure that we are willing to deal with radical change and take the risks that lead to great success. When you experience temporary failure and you know that it is temporary, you can capitalize on the opportunities adversity always brings.

We should ban fire because it burns people...

False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for the imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.   -- Cesare Beccaria, as quoted by Thomas Jefferson's Commonplace book

I received this in an email from GeorgiaCarry.org (GCO).  How true it is.  You can see how skewed we have become:

 - Banning salt in NY

- Banning Happy Meals because kids get fat

- Ban caffeine in malt liquor energy drinks because stupid college kids binge on it and get sick.

-  And, here are 9 things that you are not allowed to buy (raw milk, Really?? I grew up in Wisconsin...)

Since when is the Government's responsibility to mitigate individual risk?  Life is tough, get over it.  You make a stupid decision, you suffer the consequences and hopefully learn from your mistake(s).  Ever heard of "gene pool cleansing"? Here are some examples at the Darwin Awards.  Famous last words, "Hey! Watch this!".

I enjoy watching my daughter play.  She's very adventerous.  She likes to ride her bicycle, swing on a rope from a tree, jump on her trampoline and boss around the neighborhood kids.  I took here riding on the trails out at Harbin's Park last week and we rode about 6 miles.  On our last trail, MB1, she got out of control and dumped it.  Nothing bad, but it shook her up.  Life's rough, get over it.  While I was concerned for her well-being, I didn't exaggerate my concern, and rather helped her up and consoled her and showed her where she went wrong.  She was fine and kept going.  I was proud of her.  So much so, that she'll be getting a new bike for Christmas to further enhance her riding experience.  I'm positive we'll experience more spills, but you know what they say, "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger".

So, raise your hand if you're tired of Big Brother regulating you through the roof in an effort to protect you from your own stupidity.

Napoleon Hill Thought for the Day...

November 4, 2010

THERE IS HARMONY THROUGHOUT THE UNIVERSE IN EVERYTHING EXCEPT HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS.

Our universe is characterized by order and harmony, yet we human beings must constantly struggle to achieve the same characteristics in our relationships. In fact, human beings seem to find it unnatural to cooperate with others. Successful individuals are those who have learned to swim against the current, to do the things that others refuse to do. They have learned how to work together for the benefit of the entire group. Achieving harmony in any relationship-business, personal, or professional-requires work. Take comfort in the fact that you’ll accomplish far more working with others than working against them.

I received this email this morning.  Sgt. Turner, if you could please just send the  money to my home address via FedEx, I'll make sure its disposed of properly....

Thanks!

Sgt. Turner's email:

FROM: Sgt. David Turner
Important Message,

Good day,

My name is David Turner, I am an American soldier, I served in the military of the 1st Armored Division in Iraq, as you know we have ended combat operations in Iraq but we are still being attacked by insurgents everyday and car bombs. We managed to move funds belonging to Saddam Hussein's family in 2003. The total amount is US$25 Million dollars in cash, mostly 100 dollar bills, this money has been kept somewhere outside Baghdad for sometime but with the end of combat operations and reduction of troops by president Obama, we are afraid that the money will be discovered hence we want to move this money to you for safe keeping pending the completion of our assignment here. You can go to this web link to read about events that took place there:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/ middle_east/2988455.stm

we are ready to compensate you with good percentage of the funds, No strings attached, just for you to help us move it out of Iraq. Iraq is still a war zone, so we plan on using diplomatic means in shipping the money out as military cargo using diplomatic immunity. If you are interested I will send you the full details, my job is to find a good partner that we can trust and that will assist us. Can I trust you? When you receive this letter, kindly send me an email signifying your interest including your most confidential telephone numbers for quick communication also your contact details. This is risk free.

In GOD we trust.
With regards,
Sgt. David Turner

Come walk with us!! NAMI Walks

On September 18 of this year, I and many of my friends, family and colleagues will be walking for NAMI Georgia.  It is a fantastic event dedicated to raising awareness as well as money for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).  Those that cannot walk with us can donate using the following link: http://www.nami.org/namiwalks10/GEO/dhagaman.
This year's venue is at one of the best parks in Gwinnett: Tribble Mill.  And, being in September, we are nearly guaranteed to have beautiful Georgia weather.  Those with kids will have a blast playing on the playground, there's plenty of grass to throw frisbees, footballs and if the wind is right, there's plenty of space to fly a kite!
So, why not make plans now to come and join us!  The date is Saturday, September 18, 2010.  I can't wait to meet some new friends and reconnect with old ones!

See you there!

My new loading bench...

Well, it's far from new.  Just cleaned up and fortified with extra screws.  At least I got everything off the dining room table....

My first .45 ACP reload...

So...I've been taking my time, reading, learning, checking and rechecking to be sure I know what's up with this reloading stuff.  I think I have it now.
I started out by cleaning (duh!) the cases...and cleaned many pounds just to see what kind of results I'd get.
Next, I figured out how to deprime the cases.  It was only after doing a hundred that I figured out how to put together the Lee Primer Feed so I could deprime, and prime in the same case.  I almost always learn by making mistakes....
The powder charging took me some time to feel confident.  I tried to use the Lee Perfect Powder measure and the Lee scale, but found that  a $40 digital scale got me confidence faster.  And, just for the record, the Lee scale  I have is a piece of junk.  I don't know what the magnet dampeners are for because, literally, there is absolutely nothing magnetic in the whole scale.  I could not get the scale to zero to save my life.  And, even the slightest motion would make it bob up and down.  Fuggetaboutit! I got a digital scale.  Problem solved.
Bear in mind, I spent a lot of time with my books, some empty cartridges and dies in the press to figure out what the heck was going on.  Trust me, it is not rocket surgery.  However, it is imperative to be exact! Even anal about it.
So far, I have only done 10 rounds.  My very first round (seen in the video) will be kept for historical purposes.  Plus, the bullet is seated too far...IMHO.
At any rate, I think I've got it down.  I've even got a table I'm gonna use just for reloading.  I'll be setting up a permanent area so I can get my stuff off the dining room table.  Ciao for now...

Boycotting Mexican...

I just read an article by Bob Griggs about boycotting Mexican restaurants, and products in general on Cinco de Mayo.  Mexican food and Mexican beer are among my favorites.  Tacos. Enchiladas. Empanadas. Corona.  Tecate.  Tequila.  Mexican is one of my first choices.

With all the controversy over illegal aliens, the new AZ law, border violence and San Fransissy's asenine boycott of Arizona, I can understand Bob's argument.  But then I read one of the comments from a reader directed towards Mr. Grigg's article:

I can certainly understand your frustration with illegal immigration from the standpoint that those who come here illegally are breaking Federal immigration law. But, what I don’t understand is how you think boycotting Mexican restaurants or Hispanic-owned or Hispanic-themed businesses on 5 de Mayo doesn’t equate to outright racism and discrimination, even if just for one day?
Racism? Really?  Let's scratch up the definition of "racism".....

rac·ism [rey-siz-uhm]

–noun
1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.
If you need the link for the definition, click here.

OK.  How is boycotting Mexican products on May 5 racist?  How is enforcing the law racist?  It's a freaking law: if you sneak into the US without going through the proper steps to be here you have broken the law and are a criminal. Period.

I heard it explained this way:  Suppose you climb a fence to get into a major league baseball game.  Did you obtain a ticket to get in? No.  Now suppose nobody knows you have no ticket and you purchase a hot dog, nachos and a beer.  Did you contribute to the economics of the ball park? Yes.  Does your purchase grant you a seat? No.  You're still in the ball park without paying admission.  When you sit in a seat and an usher asks you for your ticket (which you don't have), should you be allowed to stay? No.  Is the usher a racist? No. Should the rules be relaxed for you? No.

It really irks me the way people abuse the word 'racist'.  Ignorance is epidemic.  And, I really don't see many people doing what it takes to educate themselves.  Disturbing.

Quit it with the racist nonsense, people.  Ignorance can be cured with education.  There is no cure for stupid.

If you're like me and rarely use your hitch receiver....

How cool is this???
I've taken off my ball hitch because my shins can't take the abuse anymore.  Now the hitch is just a gaping 2 inch hole.  I've looked for something to fill it: a boat propeller, my favorite NFL team, an extra tail light.  But haven't found anything worth my hard earned money.   Until now!

Enter the "Hitch Safe".  Need a spare key hideaway?  An extra $20 just in case?  Pop it in and lock it and you're good to go.

I laughed so hard I cried!

**for Americans - this joke takes place in South Africa***

I was buying a large bag of Eukanuba (Dog food) at Pick and Pay and standing
in line at the check out. A woman behind me asked if I had a dog.

On impulse, I told her that no, I was starting The Eukanuba Diet again,
although I probably shouldn't because I'd ended up in the hospital last
time, but that I'd lost 22 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care
ward with tubes coming out  of most of my orifices and IV's in both
arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it
works is to load your pockets with Eukanuba nuggets and simply eat one or
two every time you feel hungry and that the food is nutritionally complete so
I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically
everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story, particularly a
guy who was behind her.)
Horrified, the woman asked if I'd ended up in the
hospital in that condition because I had been poisoned.

I told her "No, its because I'd been sitting in the street licking my b@lls and a car hit me."

I thought one guy was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so
hard as he staggered out the door.

Stupid woman!...why else would I buy dog food??

I just listed some more items for EBay...

Have a look: HDMI cables, Casino Game in a Box and more to come!

LOL!

DEA officer stops at a ranch in Texas, and talks with an old rancher.. He tells the rancher, "I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs." The rancher says, "Okay , but do not go in that field over there," as he points out the location.

The DEA officer verbally explodes saying, " Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me." Reaching into his rear pants pocket, he removes his badge and proudly displays it to the rancher. "See this badge? This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish.... On any land.. No questions asked or answers given. Have I made myself clear? Do you understand? "

The rancher nods politely, apologizes, and goes about his chores.

A short time later, the old rancher hears loud screams and sees the DEA officer running for his life chased by the rancher's big Santa Gertrudis Bull......

With every step the bull is gaining ground on the officer, and it seems likely that he'll get gored before he reaches safety. The officer is clearly terrified. The rancher throws down his tools, runs to the fence and yells at the top of his lungs.....

"Your badge... Show him your badge!!"

Honor and Remember

This is a fantastic idea.  I was moved by the number of soldiers that were in the airport at Will Rogers Airport in OKC.  I've shaken their hands, wished them God's protection and thanked them for their service in every airport I've been in.  Somehow those interactions seem so small.  I kinda feel guilty for never being a soldier.  Too late for regrets.

As civilians, we are OBLIGATED to support our men and women in uniform.  Those that don't need to find another place to live.

Having said that, please go sign the petition, and support our fallen Heroes.  Freedom isn't free, and some have paid the ultimate price for us to live in the greatest country in the world.

Gum Creek Customs

From the "Gotta get me one" department, if you carry, you gotta get one. Best product @ the show!

Gum Creek Customs

Anybody that carries a firearm needs to check this out: Gum Creek Customs - Vehicle Holster Mount. I picked one up yesterday at the RK Gun show in Gwinnett at the county fairgrounds.
It took me 5 minutes to figure it out and install it. It fits to the dashboard right under the steering wheel between your legs. I'll have a picture to show you later. For now, just go to their website and buy one. You won't be dissappointed.
By far, the best product at the show! Best of luck to Jimmy, Bert and Glenn!
