We should ban fire because it burns people...

False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for the imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.   -- Cesare Beccaria, as quoted by Thomas Jefferson's Commonplace book

I received this in an email from GeorgiaCarry.org (GCO).  How true it is.  You can see how skewed we have become:

 - Banning salt in NY

- Banning Happy Meals because kids get fat

- Ban caffeine in malt liquor energy drinks because stupid college kids binge on it and get sick.

-  And, here are 9 things that you are not allowed to buy (raw milk, Really?? I grew up in Wisconsin...)

Since when is the Government's responsibility to mitigate individual risk?  Life is tough, get over it.  You make a stupid decision, you suffer the consequences and hopefully learn from your mistake(s).  Ever heard of "gene pool cleansing"? Here are some examples at the Darwin Awards.  Famous last words, "Hey! Watch this!".

I enjoy watching my daughter play.  She's very adventerous.  She likes to ride her bicycle, swing on a rope from a tree, jump on her trampoline and boss around the neighborhood kids.  I took here riding on the trails out at Harbin's Park last week and we rode about 6 miles.  On our last trail, MB1, she got out of control and dumped it.  Nothing bad, but it shook her up.  Life's rough, get over it.  While I was concerned for her well-being, I didn't exaggerate my concern, and rather helped her up and consoled her and showed her where she went wrong.  She was fine and kept going.  I was proud of her.  So much so, that she'll be getting a new bike for Christmas to further enhance her riding experience.  I'm positive we'll experience more spills, but you know what they say, "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger".

So, raise your hand if you're tired of Big Brother regulating you through the roof in an effort to protect you from your own stupidity.
